Freeroller hits Bad Beat Jackpot
June 11, 2009
Carbon Poker’s Bad Beat Jackpot was finally triggered today as nine players each cashed in on a share of $734,542,27 with the ‘losing’ player walking away with over $250,000 in cash.
All of the poker rooms on the Merge Network offer a bad beat jackpot whereby if a player holding at least quad sevens goes on to lose the hand, all the players involved in the hand will win a share of the jackpot on offer.
In this instance, when the flop was drawn, Carbon Poker players “Ween10″ and “kdawg1979″ both had 3 of a kind – 7’s and Q’s respectively. Betting continued to increase as first kdawg hit four of a kind (on the turn) and Ween10 got his 7 on the river.
When the cards were turned over, kdawg picked up the main pot of $60.92, but most importantly scooped a further $128,544.90 for getting second place in the Bad Beat Jackpot.
“Two or three nights ago, I played in a freeroll, came in third and won five bucks,” he said. “I got it up to $60 and went to the Bad Beat tables for about two hours and hit it for $128,000. I’ve never made a deposit and I’ve never had so much money before!”
This is actually the second time that the Bad Beat Jackpot has gone off in the last six months. In February the jackpot reached a world record $1.2m before it was taken down by a student from New York who went home with over $400,000.
A Carbon Poker spokesman commented, “when you are talking about this level of payout, it becomes life changing. Every day that it builds, we are getting more players on the Bad Beat tables. You get players literally hoping to lose. One of them finally got their wish.”
