Paddy Poker’s Sole Survivor prize awarded
October 26, 2009
Last weekend saw the Irish Masters kick off at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin.
The event consisted of 398 players, many of whom had qualified for the tournament via a number of satellites hosted by Paddy Poker. As the main sponsor, Paddy Poker were also offering a special “Sole Survivor” prize which would be awarded to the online qualifier who went the furthest in the competition.
The promotion was only open to those players who had qualified for the Irish Open via Paddy Poker’s online qualifiers. Each qualifier was automatically added into the promotion, which had no minimum placement requirements: whether the Sole Survivor finished 1st or 200th in the tournament overall, it didn’t matter as long as they outlasted all of the other qualifiers. It was effectively a competition within a competition.
The €20,000 award finally went to 37 year old Paul Dooley who outlasted 61 other online qualifiers to finish in seventh place overall, picking himself up and additional cheque for €22,400. Overall it wasn’t a bad weekend for the man from Tipperary whose previous best placing had been to finish in 8th place in the 2007 Irish Open.
Dooley faced stiff comptition from John Cassidy for the Sole Survivor prize as both players reached the final table of the tournament. However Cassidy was knocked out inwhen his Ace-King couldn’t outdraw Igor Kuganov’s pocket rockets, meaning Cassidy finished in ninth place.
