Review of Carbon

Carbon Poker is the room that emerged from the dust of the old Poker.com room shutting down.

Running as a part of the Merge Network, the software has been impressively upgraded and now offers poker players some lovely features that they will struggle to find elsewhere. Carbon poker is also one of the few rooms around that currently accepts US players.

Software features

Carbon poker have worked hard to incorporate a lot of poker features that players would normally only find down at their local card room or casino:

  • Bad Beat Jackpot – If anyone at your table ends up having their monster cracked, then you could be in line for a big pay day!
  • Deal it Twice – Find yourself all in against another opponent and you can request the turn and the river cards to be dealt twice
  • Expose one card – If your opponent can’t stand the heat and folds to your bet, you will have the option just to show just one of your cards leaving him wondering!
  • Rabbit Hunt – Pick up the pot unopposed, and you will have the option to Rabbit so that you can see what cards would have come up next if the hand had continued.
  • Resizable Windows – Fantastic for players who like to play multiple tables at once. Rezie each window, so that they all sit neatly on your screen. The razor sharp vector graphics mean that you’ll be able to follow the action no matter how small the windows are!
  • Time Bank – A great addition for those occasions when you need just a little bit more time before deciding whether to make a big play or not.

Games available

Carbon offer players a wide selection of poker flavours:
Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha Hi/Lo, 7 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo, 5 Card Stud, Razz, 5 Card Draw, Deuce to Seven Triple Draw, Caribbean Stud

There are also plenty of side games for players to get involved with:
Roulette, Badugi, Blackjack, Ace to Five Triple Draw, Backgammon, Video poker

Bonus:

Carbon Poker offer all new players a 100% first deposit bonus up to a maximum of $500.

To take advantage of this, players will need to use the bonus code CPP500 when making their first deposit.

Check out our Carbon Poker Bonus page for more details about how your bonus will be paid and necessary clearnace rates.

Tournaments:

You won’t find big money at carbon Poker, but what you will find are well run tourmanents mainly with low and medium buy-ins. The maximum buy-in at the moment is $109, but there is a possibiliy that this might grow in the near future as Carbon expands its player base.

However, all tournaments that are run are well organsised and offer good value, with the flagship game being a Guaranteed Monthly $20,000 .

However, Carbon really comes into its own when it comes to freeroll tournaments. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that there are very few poker rooms out there that can beat Carbon for freeroll value.

Tournaments range from daily $50 tourneys to the massive $50,000 freeroll with the schedule looking like this:

Daily: $1,000 Freeroll
Saturday: $2,000 Freeroll
Sunday: $10,000 Freeroll
Monthly: $50,000 Freeroll

The smaller tourneys are totally free to enter, where as the larger freerolls will generally require a certain number of comp points gain a seat. This still provides great value though, as the fields are usually quite small, giving players an excellent chance of getting paid.

New players to Carbon Poker can also take advantage of a number of freerolls which are open exclusively to first time depositers as part of the Carbon Poker sign-up bonus.

Deposit options:

Carbon poker offer players the full range of methods to deposit and withdraw cash:

Visa, Master Card, Eco Card, Moneybookers, Neteller, Click2Pay, Fonelinx, eWalletXpress, Pin Debit, Allied Wallet, Express Transfer, Cheque

Competition/Traffic

Traffic on Carbon Poker is by no means as busy as some of the larger poker rooms that are out there. As of the beginning of 2009, statistics show 2,000 real money tournament players using Carbon Poker at peak hours.

However, the good news is that traffic is growing thanks to the emergence of the other rooms on the same network (Aced Poker being a good example). What’s even better news is that the players you’re likely to come up against are a lot softer than the ones you will find in more established rooms.

You should be able to grow you bankroll reasonably comfortably (especially at lower levels) by finding quite a few fish.
